Invitational Training & Performance Program for Students of our School Residencies
Connect with other Edmonton students through street dance at the Groovebox studio
So many youth do not get the opportunity to explore performance on the big stage. So many youth could use more face time with peers and less screen time. We’ve seen how much students enjoy our street dance workshops & relatable coaches and wanted to extend that experience beyond this residency. That’s where the Groove as 1 program comes in!

What is this program about?
Street dance training + performance opportunity in June.
Through it’s collaborative initiative with other schools in the Edmonton area, Groove as 1 will challenge all students to step out of their comfort zones and work with new friends to learn an exciting Street Dance routine during the month of June at our studio location. This program emphasizes teamwork and confidence every step of the way towards a final performance on stage for family and friends. The program is 100% free. All choreography and instruction from is provided as part of the Groovebox’s community outreach initiative. Parents who want to show support can purchase tickets for the big show to come cheer on the project in June.
LIVE PERFORMANCE ON JUNE 25, 2023
The final live performance will take place at the Arden Theatre on June 25, 2023 alongside host dance studio 3rd Street Beat featuring over 30 competitive hip hop groups and professional crews.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
A rehearsal/training schedule will be emailed to all families that have signed up with the form on this page. We look forward to welcoming you to our Groovebox community!
The Groovebox will be providing 3 of their best Hip Hop dance coaches to work with the students at our cool studio location.
All Groove as 1 students will get to learn new grooves and steps each week, dive deeper into the hip hop culture and develop new connections in a positive environment.
WHEN DO WE REHEARSE?
Based on the numbers of students per grade that are interested, we will host rehearsals on Friday evenings and Saturdays in June. Here is a sample schedule from our program last year.
Kinders > Friday 5-6pm
Grades 1 & 2 > Friday 5-7pm
Grades 3 & 4 > Saturday 5-7pm
Grades 5 & 6 > Saturday 5-7pm
