Get ready to groove with Lukas Lock's Groovebox! We're western Canada's most unique studio for authentic Hip Hop and street dance. Our creative curriculum covers Locking, Breaking, Popping, Animation, House, Waving/Gliding, and Old & New school Hip Hop party grooves. We're all about preserving the roots & rich history of these dances, sharing knowledge straight from the creators and pioneers themselves. Over 22 years, Lukas Lock has learned from the best and now shares that knowledge with our students and teachers. Join us for a school field trip to the Groovebox, and let's keep the history alive with a whole lot of dancing fun!

HOW DO FIELDTRIPS WORK?
OUR FACILITY
The Groovebox operates out of the 3SB Creative Youth Centre in a 8,000 sq ft space. Our home includes access to a super cool lobby with canteen and three separate studios.
Studio 1: 1000 sq ft
Studio 2: 1600 sq ft
Studio 3: 2600 sq ft
We can welcome 50+ dancers at one time in one of our larger studios, while accomodating up to 3 studios at a time. This makes it possible for several classes to receive workshops simultaneously.
SAMPLE SCHEDULE
12pm Arrival and be greeted by your workshop host
12:05pm - 12:10pm Take a tour of our Hip Hop centre and learn how the workshop works
12:10pm Get set up in your large studio room. Put away your bags and get shoes on. Meet the teacher and get started
12:10pm - 1:10pm Learn about Hip Hop history, origins of the dance, how to apply creativity and confidence to the lesson. Step out of the box and start to learn the fundamentals. Fundamentals lead to more complex patterns and combinations of moves, eventually leading to a full choreographed routine in the chosen style of street dance. Learn how to perform, how to express your character and personality inside the dance to the music. Perform and live the beat with your friends in teams! Deploy courage and take risks in smaller showcases and freestyle circles to allow the students to show off their own personal style and personality in front of their peers. Teacher will also demo their style and skill
1:10pm - 1:20pm Give out scholarships to select students. Everyone received a certificate of completion from the Groovebox workshop. Take a few group photos to capture the experience and moment where everyone has performed and succeeded in completing their workshop
1:20pm -1:30pm Pack up, come back to the front lobby and received some free swag from the Groovebox and say a few thank you's. Board bus back to the school

FIELDTRIP: $150/hr+gst

1.5 - 2 hour workshop
Comfortable and open Lobby access to hangout and socialize during breaks

History lesson with education in dance origins, vocabulary of movement and technical breakdowns of moves
Custom lighting and concert grade sound in your studio for maximum effect

2-3 scholarship giveaways to select students at the end of the workshop (Value $400)
Photo at the Boombox wall and video clips of the workshop dance performances made shareable to the school upon approval

Lukas Lock has been the proud studio owner and creative director at 3rd Street Beat Street Dance studios (Edmonton's first street dance studio) and now the Groovebox centre in North Edmonton since 2001, providing dance education and creative works of choreography to over 150 schools, corporate events, parties and charitable fundraisers. His company has toured the world with original Hip Hop dance productions and organized and instructed several performance in such places as Spain, Las Vegas, China, U.S and Canada.
